  • 1 lb ground Italian sausage (hot or mild)
  • 32 oz marinara sauce (Rao’s recommended)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup Pecorino Romano cheese
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the ziti according to package instructions until al dente; drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add ground sausage and cook until browned, about 5–6 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  4. Stir in minced garlic and marinara sauce; add red pepper flakes and let simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Combine cooked pasta with the sauce mixture until well coated.
  6. Layer half of the pasta mixture in the baking dish, sprinkle with half of the mozzarella and Pecorino Romano cheeses. Repeat with remaining pasta and top with remaining cheeses.
  7. Bake uncovered for about 20 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Allow to cool for 5–10 minutes before serving; garnish with fresh parsley.
